Secondary packages

Finally, A Solution for Printing on secondary packages !

The launch of the new-state-of-art piezo inkjet- Cx350i has been announced by Domino Printing.

The new product has been described as a direct-to-box printing solution which is reliable, low-maintenance and has been optimized for low-cost printing with high quality. It is also GS1-compliant machine-readable codes which is onto cases, trays and the other secondary packaging types.

The product manager of PIF at Domino printing, Mr. David Edwards, “Code quality, especially with regards to barcodes, is a top priority when printing on secondary packaging,” he also added, “A poor-quality barcode may fail to scan, which can lead to rejection by retailers, costing manufacturers huge amounts in rework and wasted stock. GS1 estimates the cost of poor barcode quality in the UK to be somewhere between £500 million and £1 billion per year.”

Previously any inkjet solutions made for printing directly on secondary packaging have always had a very poor reputation in terms of the print quality- it has always been thought of as unreliable, messy and also required cleaning and intervention to be able to get high quality prints.

Therefore, it the print and applying label solution has been adopted more widely than direct printing on boxes- but the company now has said that this method leads to higher costs and generates a lot more waste.

The idea behind the designing of Cx350i is to provide maximum stability, clean operation, and precise code placement and consistency, all this will be provided even when it faces production line vibrations.

High-resolution printing of GS1- compliant barcodes along with bath and product information with other variable data can be produced by this stainless steel printhead. It has also been reported that the optional inline barcode validation has been able to reduce the risks of both the printing errors and incorrect codes.

The QuickStep user interface is present in the Cx350i, this is a touchscreen control which gives the operators the choice to be able to quickly adjust settings and also select, edit, or create their print designs very easily. All across the Domino range this user interface is common which makes it all the easier as one does not need to have additional operator training.

If any manufacturer is looking for an option for better connectivity and smart factory solutions then the Cx350i is an option. It is compatible with Domino’s coding automation solutions, and is also able to provide options for integration into factory ERP and MES systems. There is also a choice to use the optional Domino Cloud connectivity by manufacturers for the need to monitor their product line performance remotely.
